Ontex Accelerates Leadership Transition and Initiates Strategic Review
Belgian personal hygiene products manufacturer Ontex announces the early commencement of Laurent Nielly as CEO starting January 13, 2026, nearly a month ahead of the originally scheduled date. The company also announces the launch of a comprehensive strategic review aimed at identifying new opportunities for profitable growth.
Immediate Appointment of New CEO
According to the press release issued this Monday, Laurent Nielly officially assumes the role of CEO of Ontex with immediate effect, succeeding Gustavo Calvo Paz. This acceleration of the schedule, initially set for early February as announced on December 11, 2025, allows the new leader to take charge of the 2026 plan from the start of the fiscal year. The group specifies that Gustavo Calvo Paz will remain with the company until the end of January to ensure a smooth transition. The board of directors justifies this decision by their confidence in Laurent Nielly's ability to immediately lead the group.
Strategic Review Under New Leadership
Under the leadership of Laurent Nielly, Ontex indicates that a review of all strategic options will be undertaken to identify additional opportunities for profitable growth and value creation. According to the press release, this review will cover all available levers to enhance the group's performance, including business portfolio, operational footprint, and distribution channels. The stated goal is to improve cash generation and return on investment. To accelerate this process, a strategic committee of the board will be established to facilitate decision-making and oversee the execution of the company's medium and long-term plans.
Board Appointment Following Resignation
The group also announces the co-option of Lorenzo Grabau as a non-executive director on its board, following the resignation of Jesper Hojer. This appointment will be subject to ratification at the next general meeting of shareholders. According to Ontex, Lorenzo Grabau brings significant expertise in capital markets and strategic transformation. The release specifies that he has considerable experience as a director and chairman of various listed and unlisted companies, having previously served as chairman and CEO of Kinnevik AB, a listed Swedish investment company, and as a partner at Goldman Sachs.
