Publicis Groupe Shares Drop Nearly 3% and Relinquish Top of Rally
The French advertising company takes a breather after a series of very favorable sessions. The stock turns sharply downward, amid a hesitant CAC 40. The move comes after an acceleration that had pushed the stock near its recent highs.
Sudden Halt in Session After Several Weeks of Marked Increase
Publicis Groupe shares fell by 2.8% to €88.90, down from a close of €91.46 the previous day. The stock is among the sharpest declines in the CAC 40, while the Paris index itself only lost 0.13%. The decline follows a significant upward trajectory: the stock is still up +15.3% over one month and +18.69% over three months, despite today's profit-taking.
The week is nearly flat (+0.07%), with today's drop absorbing most of the gains accumulated at the start of the week. The session occurs in a cautious market context: Wall Street closed lower on Tuesday, with the Nasdaq losing 1.34%, and the Fed held its rates while hinting at a possible increase, which weighs on the most stretched valuations. Publicis also used the Cannes Lions Festival this week to criticize the excessive promises of AI in advertising, without a direct identifiable effect on today's trading.
RSI at 70 Indicates a Stretched Setup After Recent Rally
Today's decline can be explained by a stretched technical configuration. The RSI reaches 70, at the edge of the overbought zone, after a rally that had brought the stock close to the resistance level of €92.12. At €88.90, the price remains well above its moving averages: +2.66% compared to the MM20 (€86.60), +8.64% compared to the MM50 (€81.83), and +8.77% compared to the MM200 (€81.73).
The downward movement brings the stock towards its MM20, the first technical buffer being monitored. The MM50 and MM200, nearly identical around €81.80, outline a second, more structural support level if the consolidation continues. The resistance of €92.12, briefly approached, remains the next graphical hurdle in case of a bullish recovery.
