Riber Records a Third Order for MBE 6000 System for Quantum Dot Lasers
French epitaxy equipment manufacturer announces the sale of an MBE 6000 production system to Japanese company QD Laser, specialized in quantum dot lasers for optical data transmission applications. This marks the third order of this type recorded by Riber in one month for this market segment.
Optimized Epitaxial Synthesis for Quantum Dots
According to the press release, QD Laser has ordered an MBE 6000 system that will be optimized for the epitaxial synthesis of gallium arsenide-based quantum dots. These nanometric structures are intended for optical data transmission applications, a segment driven by the increase in data volumes and the integration of artificial intelligence into networks. The company states that the MBE 6000 system meets the requirements for quantum dot growth with an optimized chamber design, advanced control software, and components that allow precise and reproducible control of growth parameters. The system is scheduled for delivery in 2026.
A Key Industrial Solution for Datacom Sector
This order represents, according to Riber, the third MBE 6000 project dedicated to the production of epitaxial wafers based on quantum dots for the Datacom sector recorded within a month. The group indicates that these orders confirm the positioning of the MBE 6000 as a leading industrial solution for these high-value applications. Riber specifies that quantum dot growth requires particularly stringent temperature uniformity and deposition rate stability, conditions that its system is designed to meet.
Long-Term Relationship with QD Laser
QD Laser has maintained a long-term relationship with Riber, with the first production machine being delivered as early as 2008, the press release states. The Japanese client is among the first to have qualified Riber's ABI 1000 cell, recognized for its control of stability, uniformity, and reproducibility of gallium or indium deposits, with a loading capacity doubled compared to standard effusion cells, the company specifies. Founded in 2006, QD Laser is a Tokyo Stock Exchange-listed company specializing in the development and production of quantum dot lasers and optoelectronic devices.
