Safe Orthopaedics Signs First Distribution Agreement in Brazil
The French medical technology group Safe Group has announced that its subsidiary Safe Orthopaedics has entered into an exclusive distribution contract with IMPLAMED for the Brazilian market. This agreement marks the company's first foray into this Latin American country.
Exclusive Distribution Agreement
According to the press release dated January 19, Safe Orthopaedics has signed an exclusive distribution agreement with IMPLAMED, a distributor of medical devices in Brazil. This is the company's first distribution contract in the country, the group states. Brazil is the largest orthopedics market in Latin America, with a population of over 215 million people. Safe Group notes that IMPLAMED has an extensive distribution network and over 40 years of experience in marketing innovative medical devices, with more than 70 distributors. This partnership is expected to allow Safe Orthopaedics to leverage IMPLAMED's knowledge of the Brazilian market, the release specifies.
Market Entry Requirements
The introduction of Safe Orthopaedics products in Brazil will require prior approvals from ANVISA, the Brazilian health regulatory authority, the group indicates. Safe Orthopaedics is working on preparing the documentation to meet strict regulatory requirements, aiming to offer its surgical solutions to Brazilian surgeons as soon as the approvals are obtained, according to the press release. The effective commercial deployment is thus contingent upon clearing this regulatory hurdle.
Strategic International Expansion
According to Nicolas Papillon, CEO, this agreement is part of the continuation of Safe Orthopaedics' international expansion strategy and strengthens the group's presence in Latin America. The executive highlights that Safe Orthopaedics' ready-to-use instrumentation technologies bring benefits to both private and public Brazilian markets, where logistical constraints are exacerbated by distances and local distribution models. He also notes that IMPLAMED also distributes products from the company SpineUp, confirming the synergies between Safe and SpineUp, as mentioned in the release. Safe Group employs about 100 staff and designs kits combining sterile implants and single-use instruments for spinal pathologies.
