SPIE Signs Three-Year Framework Agreement with Tesla for Energy Storage
French multi-technical services group SPIE announced on December 15th the signing of a European framework agreement with Tesla concerning the installation of battery energy storage systems. This renewable three-year contract covers all European subsidiaries of the group with expertise in this field.
Scope of the Agreement
The agreement signed with Tesla focuses on the implementation of BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems) projects across Europe, the statement indicates. SPIE will handle a technical scope that includes engineering, the execution of the Balance of Plant, connection to high and medium voltage networks, installation of auxiliary equipment such as security systems, lighting, fire detection, and video surveillance, as well as the commissioning of the facilities. The contractual framework aims to standardize legal and operational conditions for all Megapack projects carried out by the group in Europe. According to the company, this agreement currently covers activities in France and could expand to other countries, including Poland and Germany, where the group already has recognized expertise in such projects.
Current and Past Projects
SPIE has already been involved or is currently involved in several projects that integrate Tesla Megapack technology in three European countries, the statement specifies. In Belgium, the group completed the installation services for a 50 MW and 200 MWh system in Ville-sur-Haine, which included 53 Megapacks, the provision of the Balance of Plant, and a 150 kV connection to the public grid. In the Netherlands, SPIE is part of the Mufasa project in Vlissingen, touted as the country's future largest BESS park with 372 Megapacks and a capacity of 1.4 GWh. In France, in the Eure department, the group is carrying out the installation of a 100 MW and 200 MWh unit, including the creation of a 90 kV electrical substation for connection to the RTE network. The work, which began in September 2025, is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
Strategic Project Management
This collaboration illustrates the group's ability to lead strategic projects through a structured organization at a European level, according to the statement. Tobias Zaers, Director of Business Development and Marketing at SPIE, emphasizes that the agreement reflects the trust of a major energy player in the group's technical skills and pan-European organization. According to the company, the systematic sharing of experiences among subsidiaries allows for the capitalization on national expertise. SPIE, which employs 55,000 people, achieved a consolidated turnover of 9.9 billion euros and an operating result of 712 million euros in 2024.
