STMicroelectronics stock lagging in the CAC 40, weighed down by semiconductors
STMicroelectronics holds the last place in the CAC 40 in mid-morning trading, accentuating an already pronounced decline over the quarter. Today's pullback occurs in a fragile market context, as the VIX surged more than 14% and the Paris index is also losing ground.
Lagging CAC 40 stock declines 2.91% in a semiconductor sector broadly in the red
STMicroelectronics loses 2.91% to €44.77 during the session, marking the strongest decline in the CAC 40 while the Paris index itself gives up 0.78%. The pullback is not isolated: its European peers ASML Holding and ASM International retreat by 1.20% and 1.97% respectively, while on the American side, Micron Technology drops 2.22%, Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices each lose nearly 1.5% at their last close. The pressure thus affects the entire semiconductor sector, in a context where major central banks could maintain restrictive monetary conditions for longer.
Over one month, STMicro nonetheless gains 3.92%, and the rebound shown over the week still reaches 5.08%, testifying to the violent swings that characterize this stock over recent weeks. Over three months, however, the balance sheet remains severe at -29.46%, a correction that recalls the scale of the decline initiated last summer.
STMicro falls below its 50-day moving average despite recent technical rebound above the 20-day MA
The technical configuration of the stock illustrates the tension between short-term recovery and medium-term pressure. STMicroelectronics trades above its 20-day moving average (€43.85), with a positive spread of 2.10%, confirming that the rebound initiated last Monday has left its mark. But the stock remains below its 50-day MA at €46.32, a negative spread of 3.35%: this mobile resistance, combined with the static resistance threshold at €49.06, forms a double ceiling that today's session is moving away from challenging. The RSI at 53 remains neutral, neither oversold nor overbought, which does not rule out a continuation of the intraday decline.
According to the consensus of surveyed analysts, the stock is trading around 38 times expected earnings for the current fiscal year, versus 19.7 times those of the following fiscal year, a gap that reflects the uncertainties regarding short-term profitability noted during the Q2 results released on July 23, 2026. The support level at €41.74 remains the reference to monitor in case of continued decline.
