Trade Negotiations: Food Industry Representatives Denounce Lack of Change Among Distributors
During the first monitoring committee of the trade negotiations held on January 19, 2026, food industry representatives reported that distributor practices remain unchanged despite the signing of a commitment charter in November 2025. According to a Pact'Alim survey, 80% of the companies surveyed observed no change or a deterioration in buyer behavior.
Initial Monitoring Committee Meeting Highlights
On January 19, 2026, the first monitoring committee took place under the auspices of ministers Annie Genevard and Serge Papin, with representatives from the food sector present. The office of Minister Serge Papin described the outcome of the negotiations as 'mixed', noting that improvements are possible, especially regarding threats of delisting. The deadline of January 15 for concluding negotiations with SMEs was not met, according to observations by Pact'Alim.
Price Negotiation Discrepancies
Food manufacturers are requesting price increases of 1.5 to 3%, while distributors are demanding reductions of 5 to over 20%, according to data provided by Pact'Alim. Among the respondents to the Pact'Alim survey, 25% report systematic price reductions and ongoing pressure from distributors.
Government Vigilance and Regulatory Compliance
The ministers reiterated their vigilance regarding the adherence to the law and announced that over 1,100 inspections will be conducted this year to ensure compliance with practices.
