The project also includes the creation of a port platform connected to the Ourcq canal to transfer over 165,000 tons of waste by barge each year, as well as the creation of a community resource center. According to the company, the project fully integrates Vinci Construction's environmental approach: noise and dust reduction, soil decontamination, and biodiversity preservation. By 2029, the center will handle 40,000 tons of bio-waste out of the 450,000 tons of waste processed annually, while reducing its carbon footprint through river freight.
Impact and Strategic Importance
The press release states that this facility will benefit nearly 6 million residents of Seine-Saint-Denis. The Romainville-Bobigny center is part of the network of infrastructure managed by Syctom, the central mixed syndicate for household waste treatment in the Paris region. This project is part of a strategy to modernize waste treatment and recovery facilities in Île-de-France, with a focus on reducing the environmental impact of operations and developing river transport.
