Vinci Construction Secures a 208 Million Euro Contract for a Waste Site in Seine-Saint-Denis
Chantiers Modernes Construction, a subsidiary of Vinci Construction, has won a contract together with Suez to renovate the Romainville-Bobigny waste treatment center, awarded by Syctom. The total construction work amounts to 237 million euros, with approximately 208 million allocated to Vinci's subsidiary.
Contract Details and Project Scope
Syctom has entrusted a consortium including Chantiers Modernes Construction and Suez with the renovation contract for the Romainville-Bobigny household waste center in Seine-Saint-Denis. The construction work in the overall contract amounts to 237 million euros, with approximately 208 million for Chantiers Modernes Construction. The works will start in March 2026 and will last for 39 months. According to the press release, the works include the construction of a new reception and transfer space for household waste to Syctom's energy recovery units, the conversion of existing facilities into a bio-waste transfer center, and the maintenance of the selective collection packaging sorting area.
Environmental Integration and Additional Features
The project also includes the creation of a port platform connected to the Ourcq canal to transfer over 165,000 tons of waste by barge each year, as well as the creation of a community resource center. According to the company, the project fully integrates Vinci Construction's environmental approach: noise and dust reduction, soil decontamination, and biodiversity preservation. By 2029, the center will handle 40,000 tons of bio-waste out of the 450,000 tons of waste processed annually, while reducing its carbon footprint through river freight.
Impact and Strategic Importance
The press release states that this facility will benefit nearly 6 million residents of Seine-Saint-Denis. The Romainville-Bobigny center is part of the network of infrastructure managed by Syctom, the central mixed syndicate for household waste treatment in the Paris region. This project is part of a strategy to modernize waste treatment and recovery facilities in Île-de-France, with a focus on reducing the environmental impact of operations and developing river transport.
