Vistra Partners with Enphase to Mobilize Texas Home Batteries
Vistra has announced the expansion of its residential battery aggregation program to include Enphase Energy storage systems. This extension aims to enhance the reliability of the Texas electrical grid by mobilizing distributed energy resources from customers.
Expansion of the Battery Rewards Program
Vistra is expanding its Battery Rewards program, offered through its retail brand TXU Energy, to include Enphase Energy's IQ® batteries. The program allows eligible customers who own an Enphase battery to receive financial incentives by exporting stored energy to the grid during peak demand periods. Through this aggregation, Vistra collects energy from the residential batteries of participating customers and channels it to the Texas grid when it is most needed. This approach aims to manage demand peaks and optimize the use of existing network infrastructure.
Advanced Operational Platform Utilizing AI
The program is based on a sophisticated operational platform that uses artificial intelligence to coordinate energy assets in real time. The AI technology, Kraken, automatically responds to periods of high demand by directing participating homes to draw power from their batteries instead of the grid, temporarily reducing the load on each home. Customers maintain control over their systems and have backup power in case of a local outage. Participants in the Battery Rewards program can also benefit from TXU Energy's solar buyback plans, which provide billing credits for excess solar energy exported to the grid. This expansion is part of Vistra's history of introducing innovative energy solutions in Texas.
