Voltalia: Revenue Up by 25%, but Stagnant Production in Q1
Voltalia reports a revenue of EUR 133.3 million in the first quarter of 2026, marking a 25% increase at constant exchange rates compared to the same period in 2025. However, this commercial growth coexists with nearly stable electricity production (-1% at 1,105 GWh) and significant production losses in Brazil due to network constraints, raising questions about the organic quality of the growth.
Revenue Breakdown and Sector Performance
The first quarter revenue is broken down as follows: 54% from Energy Sales (EUR 72.0 million, +3%), 41% from Renvolt (EUR 54.3 million, +80%), and 5% from Voltalia Hub (EUR 7.0 million, +4%). The most robust momentum comes from Renvolt, whose third-party construction activity has grown by 80%, driven by over 800 MW under construction notably in Ireland, France, and Spain. Energy Sales, the group's historical core, grew modestly by 3% despite a 17% increase in operational capacity. This divergence reflects the impact of power plant divestitures made in 2025 in France (Carrières des plaines, Canadel, Pagap) and especially production losses in Brazil.
Total Production and Curtailment Issues
Total production amounted to 1,105 GWh in Q1 2026, almost stable (-1%) compared to Q1 2025, despite a 17% increase in capacity. Curtailment (forced production limitation) reached 113 GWh in Q1 2026, up from 87 GWh in Q1 2025, an increase of 30%. In January 2026 alone, curtailment reached 70 GWh, compared to 20 GWh in January 2025. This deterioration is explained by ongoing evacuation constraints of the network which lasted until the end of January, when a new management system (SEP) was commissioned to improve electricity injection conditions. Voltalia notes that this technical improvement should significantly reduce curtailment from the end of January onwards on assets in Northeast Brazil, but the quantified impact is not detailed in the release.
Operational and Financial Goals Amidst Turbulence
Despite operational turbulence in Q1, Voltalia confirms its operational and financial targets for 2026 and reiterates its trajectory towards self-financed growth over the 2026-2030 period. The group announces the aim to pay a first dividend starting in 2028. Financially, the group has secured EUR 100 million in funding from its reference shareholder, in the form of a one-year repayable current account advance, intended to enhance financial flexibility and support the acceleration of the SPRING plan. In South Africa, the Bolobedu solar plant (148 MW) has been fully operational since April 2026 and will produce about 300 GWh annually. Concurrently, Voltalia is restructuring its organization with the creation of two distinct business lines in Development and Energy Sales, aimed at clarifying responsibilities and enhancing operational efficiency.
