Vusion Secures Major Contract with Walmart Mexico: 1.7 Million Labels to be Deployed
Walmart de México y Centroamérica is expanding its strategic partnership with Vusion to deploy the EdgeSense platform in its Walmart Express stores and begin transforming its network of Supercenters. All Walmart Express stores will be equipped with this technology by the end of 2026.
Expansion of Strategic Collaboration
Walmart de México y Centroamérica, the leading retailer in Mexico, is expanding its collaboration with Vusion, a leader in AI-enhanced digitalization solutions for physical retail. This expansion is based on the successful deployment of Vusion's connected store technologies in Walmart stores in the United States. Under this agreement, Walmart Express stores will be fully equipped with the EdgeSense platform by the end of 2026, marking the first large-scale deployment of this platform in Latin America. Walmart Mexico also plans to extend the deployment to Walmart Supercenters and to initiate a pilot deployment in its Bodega format.
Initial Deployment Details
During the initial deployment, Walmart Express stores will be equipped with over 1.7 million electronic labels and more than 180,000 intelligent EdgeSense rails. This deployment represents one of the largest connected store technology projects in Latin America. EdgeSense combines an infrastructure of smart shelves, computer vision, artificial intelligence, electronic labels, and real-time sales data to create a unified operating system for physical stores.
Aiming for Enhanced Customer Experience
Through this initiative, Walmart Mexico aims to offer a more personalized and seamless customer experience, improve employee productivity through workflow automation, reduce manual tasks, and modernize stores with infrastructure capable of supporting future innovation. Paul Lewellen, Chief Operating Officer of Walmart de México y Centroamérica, stated that 'the deployment of EdgeSense will help further modernize store operations and allow employees to focus on customer service.' Walmart Mexico thus becomes the first retailer in Latin America to deploy EdgeSense on a large scale.
