Ahold Delhaize: Margaret Versteden-Van Duijn Appointed CEO Europe and Indonesia
Ahold Delhaize's regional management is undergoing a change of hands effective October 1, 2026, with Claude Sarrailh's departure at the end of September. The appointment remains subject to shareholder approval.
An appointment effective October 1, subject to shareholder vote
Ahold Delhaize announced on August 27, 2026 that its Supervisory Board has designated Margaret Versteden-Van Duijn for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ahold Delhaize Europe & Indonesia and as a member of the Management Board of the group.
She will assume her duties as Executive Vice President Europe & Indonesia on October 1, 2026. Her appointment to the Management Board is subject to shareholder approval at an extraordinary general meeting scheduled later this year, following which she will assume the role of CEO Europe & Indonesia.
Margaret Versteden-Van Duijn joined Ahold Delhaize in 2015 as Chief Marketing Officer of Bol, the group's e-commerce platform in the Netherlands and Belgium. She currently holds the position of Brand President of Dutch retailers Albert Heijn, Etos and Gall & Gall, having been Brand President of Bol since 2021.
Prior to joining Ahold Delhaize, she held positions at Bain & Company, Nike and BCG. Of dual Australian and Dutch nationality, she holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Systems from Monash University and an MBA from INSEAD. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of Hero Group.
Organized transition with Claude Sarrailh through end of September
Claude Sarrailh, current CEO of Ahold Delhaize Europe & Indonesia, will leave his position at the end of September. He will work closely with Margaret Versteden-Van Duijn during September to ensure the transition.
Wiebe Draijer, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, stated that the appointment aims to support the execution of the group's "Growing Together" strategy. Frans Muller, President and CEO of Ahold Delhaize, thanked Claude Sarrailh for his leadership of the region.
Ahold Delhaize has also initiated a succession process for the Albert Heijn, Etos and Gall & Gall retailers, the details of which will be communicated later. In the meantime, Margaret Versteden-Van Duijn will retain overall responsibility for these brands, supported by existing management teams.
