Ahold Delhaize targets 100% green electricity in Europe by 2030, five years earlier
The supermarket retailer announced on 5 November 2026 the signing of a virtual power purchase agreement covering two projects in Romania, presented as the fifth and final power purchase agreement of its European programme.
Based on its projected consumption, the group states that it can cover all electricity consumption of its European operations with renewable electricity as early as 2030, five years ahead of its initial target of 2035.
Two Romanian parks expected to enter commercial operation in 2029
The contract supports the development of a wind farm and a solar power plant carried by Rezolv Energy SA, a renewable electricity producer active in Central and Southeastern Europe, whose commercial operation is expected in 2029. The Dunarea East onshore wind farm, located in the county of Constanta, is expected to produce 780 GWh per year.
The Dama solar power plant (county of Arad) will comprise two million solar panels for an expected production of 1,800 GWh per year; the press release presents it as set to become the largest onshore renewable energy project in the European Union. Together, the two sites will be able to supply 1.6 million households in the region, according to the group.

Ahold Delhaize will contract approximately 14% of the output of the two parks and will receive guarantees of origin for ten years from 2029. This contract follows a direct contract signed in the Netherlands in 2023, then three virtual contracts concluded in Spain (2024), Romania (2025) and Finland (2025).
These agreements are part of the group's objective of achieving carbon neutrality for its own operations (scopes 1 and 2) by 2040.
Lenka Duskova, Chief Financial Officer of Ahold Delhaize Europe & Indonesia, said: "We are pleased to support the development of these wind and solar projects in Romania, which will add new renewable capacity to the grid while contributing to a more sustainable future for the communities we serve."
