Airbus Stock Drops 2.5%, Hit by New US-Iran Escalation
The European aerospace manufacturer is in the red at mid-session, within a CAC 40 heavily penalized by the resurgence of military tensions between Washington and Tehran. The stock corrects after several weeks of significant rise. The decline is accompanied by a noticeable increase in volatility in Paris.
A drop to €198.62, still moderate compared to the recent rally
Airbus stock loses 2.61% during the session to €198.62, down from €203.95 the previous day. The stock follows a CAC 40 down by 2.28%, in a session marked by military escalation between the United States and Iran and by Donald Trump's statement in Ankara ending the ceasefire. The VIX jumps by more than 20% over the day, which increases selling pressure on cyclical stocks exposed to kerosene and air transport. However, today's movement should be viewed in the context of a generally bullish underlying trend: the stock is up +10.99% over one month, +22.14% over three months, and +12.04% over one year.
The price remains above its three moving averages, with a gap of 3.43% above the MM20 (€192.04), 9.46% above the MM50 (€181.46), and 4.53% above the MM200 (€190.02). The RSI at 69, close to the overbought zone, indicates that today's correction comes after a phase of acceleration, with the resistance identified at €209.40 not being breached. Airbus ranks in the middle of the CAC 40, with Société Générale as the worst performer (-5.81%).
A steady flow of contracts and a hydrogen joint venture with MTU Aero Engines
On the corporate front, the group continues to make announcements. Airbus and MTU Aero Engines unveiled on July 7 their joint venture project dedicated to the development of a fully electric hydrogen fuel cell engine for aviation. The new entity is expected to be operational by 2027, subject to regulatory approvals. On the same day, the manufacturer finalized a contract for ten H125 helicopters with the U.S. Customs, while seven European countries agreed to launch a multinational fleet of shared A400M aircraft.
The next financial meeting is scheduled for July 15, with the preliminary communication for the second quarter. In the short term, the resistance at €209.40, not yet tested, remains the next technical level to watch after a rally that has pushed the stock more than 4.5% above its 200-session moving average.
