BNP Paribas Extends Partnership with Mistral AI for Three Years
BNP Paribas has renewed its partnership agreement with Mistral AI for a period of three years. This extension broadens the collaboration initiated in 2023 beyond access to language models, incorporating software, solutions, and co-development research projects tailored to the operational and regulatory requirements of the banking group.
An Expanded Partnership to Software and Co-development
BNP Paribas and Mistral AI have formalized a partnership renewal covering three years. The collaboration, which began in 2023 and was solidified with a first contract in 2024, now extends to jointly designed software, solutions, and research projects. The partnership focuses on co-development, skills transfer, and gradual deployment, with an emphasis on industrialization and change management. The applied AI research and engineering teams from both entities will collaborate to design generative AI solutions suited to the operational and regulatory constraints of BNP Paribas. The group will also explore Mistral AI's computing offerings as they evolve. This decision to work with a European technology player is part of a multi-model approach to generative AI, guided by performance, data sensitivity, and geographic considerations.
Operational Use Cases in Banking Services and KYC
The partnership focuses on high-value use cases within the Corporate & Institutional Banking (CIB) and Commercial Personal Banking & Services (CPBS) sectors, with a gradual extension to the entire group. Priority applications include improving internal document search and automating data extraction to support complex financial analyses. It also covers the development of AI solutions for sensitive processes such as Know Your Customer (KYC), where data security and compliance requirements are particularly stringent. Generative AI helps automate low-value tasks and orchestrate workflows while maintaining expert validation of risks. Several applications are already deployed internally, while others are in advanced pilot or experimental phases.
Ongoing Deployments with Clients and Employees
Mistral AI's models are integrated into certain applications developed by BNP Paribas entities. At Hello bank!, the latest version of the virtual assistant HelloïZ, deployed to over a million clients since January 2026, uses generative AI to enhance understanding of customer requests and efficiently guide them. The group is also deploying a generative AI assistant for employees, designed to summarize, rephrase, and translate content, generate documents, and facilitate information analysis. This solution will be rolled out starting in 2026.
