Campine: announced acquisition of Flamaway to increase flame retardant volumes by over 50%, according to the company
Belgian group Campine has signed an agreement to acquire Flamaway Group, a producer of fire-resistant compounds present in Belgium, the United Kingdom and China. The transaction expands its portfolio beyond its formulations built around antimony trioxide and attaches the target to its Specialty Chemicals division.
Campine, a company listed on Euronext Brussels and active in metal recycling and specialty chemicals, announced on September 8, 2026 the signing of an agreement for the acquisition of Flamaway Group. The latter is a Belgian producer of flame-retardant compounds, with industrial activities in Belgium, the United Kingdom and China. Flamaway manufactures approximately 10,000 tonnes of blends per year. According to Campine, the transaction will result in growth of over 50% in its production and sales of flame-retardant chemical products. The target supplies chemical compounds to industrial customers, with a position described as strong in the broad textile industry. Its offer combines established fire-resistant products with proprietary blends and formulations. This acquisition marks a diversification from Campine's formulations, built around antimony trioxide. Flamaway's expertise in multi-material formulations complements the group's existing specialty chemicals and masterbatch activities. The transaction is expected to close on October 1, 2026.
Flamaway: nearly €40M in revenue and an EBITDA margin of approximately 10%
Flamaway Group is headquartered in Zele, Belgium, where it operates under the name CTF2000 and employs approximately 35 people, including 8 employees in research and development. The group operates a production and distribution site in Rochdale, near Manchester in the United Kingdom, with 9 employees and an application laboratory. A third site is located in Suzhou, China, west of Shanghai, where 6 people are responsible for procurement, sales and an application laboratory for the evaluation of raw materials. The group generates revenue of nearly €40M, with an EBITDA margin of approximately 10%. Flamaway will be integrated into Campine's Specialty Chemicals division. Luc Carlier, chief executive and principal shareholder of Flamaway, will continue to lead the group. He is to work with Hans Vercammen, division director, to implement synergies and develop the Specialty Chemicals division.
Complementarity between powders, granules and liquid formulations
According to Hans Vercammen, director of the Specialty Chemicals division, Campine already supplies flame-retardant chemical products in powder form and masterbatches in granule form. Flamaway adds liquid formulations and application knowledge. This transaction occurred shortly after Campine's half-year results, published in early September 2026, which reported revenue down 22% in the first half of 2026 and EBITDA of €47.2M, down 12%. According to Campine's chief executive officer, Wim De Vos, the combination of the two entities should make it possible to accelerate developments in the group's FR activities and generate synergies in terms of procurement.
