CMB.TECH: net profit of $364.4M in Q2 2026, driven by sustained maritime markets

CMB.TECH published its second quarter 2026 results on August 27, 2026, marked by a clear improvement in profitability compared to the same period one year earlier.

The publication combines favourable maritime transport markets and a series of ship disposals that generated significant accounting gains during the quarter.

The quarter was marked by several fleet transactions. The sale of VLCCs Ilma and Ingrid (2012, 314,000 dwt each) generated a gain of $98.2 million in the second quarter of 2026, while the disposal of Suezmax Sienna (2007) produced a gain of $29.2 million.

Other transactions will have their effects in subsequent quarters. The sale of VLCC Donoussa (2016), announced on August 3, 2026, is expected to generate a gain of approximately $74.3 million in the fourth quarter of 2026.

The disposal of three Suezmax vessels (Brest, Brugge and Bristol) is expected to produce a gain of approximately $100.2 million in the third quarter of 2026 and $56.9 million in the fourth quarter of 2026, based on net sale prices and book values.

Order book stable and new time charter with Fortescue

CMB.TECH's order book remained stable at $3.26 billion, with the addition of two time charters for CSOVs with a duration of two years and one time charter for a VLCC with a duration of one year.

The group also delivered nine newbuildings in the second quarter and third quarter to date, and signed a time charter with Fortescue covering a maximum of twelve Newcastlemax vessels (210,000 dwt) capable of sailing on ammonia.

CEO Alexander Saverys indicated that the group is relying on its strategic decisions over the past three years (diversification away from the tanker sector, acquisition of Golden Ocean and newbuilding programme), while signalling persistent uncertainties surrounding global trade, geopolitical tensions and the tanker order book. The next earnings release is scheduled for November 26, 2026.
