Colruyt Partners with Resto National Featuring Bel'Mer Mussels and Belgian Wine
Colruyt becomes a partner of Resto National, the iconic culinary event held on July 21 at Place du Jeu de Balle in Brussels. The Belgian retailer will supply Bel'Mer mussels, cultivated in Belgium, and the Belgian white wine 'Pas de Soucis' for the event's first fully Belgian edition of the national dish.
A Unique Partnership to Promote Belgian Products
For the first time, Resto National will serve moules-frites entirely of Belgian origin. As the official partner of this event organized on July 21 in the Marolles, Colruyt will supply the national dish with Bel'Mer mussels, the only ones cultivated off the coast of Nieuport in Belgium. These will be paired with 'Pas de Soucis' white wine produced by Domaine Lez-Envies, a vineyard owned by the group located on 10 hectares in the Pays des Collines.
This annual event attracts more than 2,000 visitors who traditionally enjoy moules-frites in the Marolles during the Belgian national holiday. Frank Anthierens, organizer of Resto National, emphasizes that this partnership strengthens 'the Belgian label of the national dish' served since 2012 and addresses ecological issues of short supply chains and support for local producers.
Production of 90 Tons of Mussels by 2026
The marine farm developed by Colruyt Group off the coast of Nieuport produced 6 tons of mussels in 2023, its first harvest. This year, the production reached more than 90 tons of Bel'Mer mussels, a volume sufficient to market them in Colruyt, Okay, and Spar stores. The first 8,500 bottles of 'Pas de Soucis' white wine were produced in 2026 and are distributed at Cru, Boir, Foodbag, and Colruyt Professionals.
Jo Willemyns, CEO of Colruyt, states that the group 'firmly believes in the potential of the local sector and Belgian expertise' and that this operation creates 'economic activity, jobs, and added value that remains anchored in Belgium'.
