Colruyt Group opens a Spar on Polenstraat on October 8
In a press release published on October 6, 2026, the Belgian retailer announced the official opening on October 8 of the Polenstraat store. The store, operated under the Spar brand, will be open Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with an emphasis on fresh and local products.
A proximity format centered on fresh produce, bakery and local products
The proximity supermarket on Polenstraat has been transformed in Spar's colors. According to the press release, it combines the character of a local store with a wide assortment, promotional offers and particular attention to fresh products. The group presents it as a place suited to both quick daily shopping and longer shopping trips.
The bakery is described as one of the store's main assets. Along with the fresh produce section and service provided by staff, it contributes to the store's identity according to the group. The assortment also includes products from numerous local producers.
"It was important for us to create a genuine neighborhood store where everyone feels at home. We want to be close to our customers and offer them a place they enjoy visiting, not just to do their shopping," said the store manager, Annelies Baert.
Nine permanent employees, energy-efficient equipment and opening in three phases
Annelies Baert has sixteen years of experience at Okay, another Colruyt Group brand. She relies on nine permanent employees familiar with the region, as well as several flexi-jobbers and students.
During the renovation, the store opted for modern, energy-efficient refrigeration systems and LED lighting. The press release frames these choices within a commitment to sustainability.
The opening schedule includes a reception on October 7, followed by the official opening to customers on October 8. Entertainment, tastings, a contest and opening promotions are planned for the weekend of October 10 and 11.
