Colruyt Reopens its Gerpinnes Store with AI-Enhanced Checkouts
Belgian retailer Colruyt has reopened its Gerpinnes Best Prices store on July 8th after renovations focused on energy efficiency, fresh service layout, and the integration of AI-based checkout technology.
Expanded Area of 2,000 sqm with Modernized Services
The store located at Chaussée de Philippeville now spans nearly 2,000 sqm. The product range has been expanded to include a new bread section, a Sushi Corner offering Asian specialties, and a renovated butchery that integrates deli, fresh pre-packaged meat, fish, and vegetarian products in closed, glass-fronted refrigerators. The in-store layout has been designed to make the shopping experience more pleasant and efficient. The establishment also features an 'Easy check-out' system equipped with artificial intelligence. A camera automatically scans products as they are transferred from one cart to another, saving time for customers and providing an ergonomic work environment for employees. The Collect&Go service allows customers to reserve their groceries online and pick them up at the store or have them delivered to their home by local couriers.
Energy Efficiency and Resource Recovery
The store meets all of Colruyt Group's sustainability requirements. Insulation, ventilation, lighting, cooling, and heating have been optimized to reduce energy consumption. It recovers heat emitted by its refrigeration units and generates its own energy through photovoltaic panels. Rainwater is collected and used for cleaning and to alleviate the sewer system. LED lighting equipped with motion sensors allows for an energy saving of about 30%. The parking lot, with more than 140 spaces, includes 6 arches that can accommodate 12 bicycles and 5 charging stations for electric vehicles.
