Eramet Resumes Production in Senegal at 30% Following February Fire
Three months after the fire on February 22, 2026, that impacted the wet concentration plant (WCP) at the Eramet Grande Côte site in Senegal, the mining and metallurgical group is gradually resuming operations. The production of heavy mineral concentrate (HMC) is currently brought to about 30% of its nominal capacity, marking the beginning of a phased restart with a return to full capacity expected in the first quarter of 2027.
A Phased Resumption Until Summer 2026
Eramet initiated a gradual restart of HMC production at the end of April 2026. Temporary solutions now allow the WCP to be fed by the SDM (additional mining extraction unit) to progressively rebuild HMC stocks necessary for the intermittent resumption of the MSP (heavy mineral separation plant), expected this summer. The first commercial shipments are planned for the summer, depending on stock availability. This first step was made possible thanks to the mobilization of local teams, adhering to the group's safety and performance standards. The partial resumption of site activities in 2026 helps mitigate some of the negative impact of the incident on operating results.
Complete Reconstruction and New Production Trajectory
The group has initiated the identical reconstruction of the damaged WCP facilities, with a goal of restarting and progressively returning to 100% capacity by the first quarter of 2027. After suspending its previous production targets, Eramet has established new guidance expected to be between 300 and 400 kt-HMC in 2026. Force majeure remains applicable to customer and supplier contracts. The group will communicate later on the amount of investments needed for reconstruction and on the expected insurance settlements, which are currently being assessed. This plan is conducted in close coordination with Senegalese authorities.
