Genfit stock falls below €9 and loses 36.5% over three months
The Lille-based biotech company specializing in hepatic and metabolic diseases experiences a sharp decline in mid-morning trading, alongside a broader pullback in the Paris market. This movement extends a significant correction that began several weeks ago, with the stock ranking among the index's heaviest losers.
A decline that extends a correction of nearly 20% over the month
The stock falls 4.21% to €8.88 and ranks among the largest decliners of the SBF 120, which retreats 1.42% at the same time. Over one month, the loss reaches 18.23%, and over three months 36.84%, a decline that contrasts with the gain of 139.6% posted over one year. The rebound of 13.41% observed over the week, supported by Genfit stock following its move into the upper part of the index on October 20, was therefore insufficient to reverse the trend.
The price now stands at the level of its 20-day moving average at €8.86, but remains 21.76% below its 50-day moving average (€11.35), a sign of the extent of the decline since September. In detail, the support level at €7.83 is approximately 12% below the current price, while the RSI at 42 remains in neutral territory. The Paris market is also evolving in a context of tension over French debt, with a 10-year OAT at 4.99% according to the latest reading from the Banque de France on October 21.
Short positions up 1.2 points over thirty days
According to filed declarations, the cumulative net short position reaches 2.30% of capital, distributed among three funds. It has increased by 1.20 points over one month, compared with 1.10% thirty days ago, representing rapid growth from a modest initial level. This level remains limited in absolute value: it indicates that a portion of institutional investors is positioning for a decline or seeking to hedge an exposure, without allowing one to conclude a generalized loss of confidence.
This rise in bearish bets is seen alongside the clear progression of Iqirvo royalties, which had tripled to €21 million in the first half, with a net loss of €26.1 million published on September 28. The latest update was the publication of half-yearly accounts. The €7.83 level remains the support level to watch, following the 20-day moving average test during the session.
