ING launches €1.65 billion share buyback and will distribute €0.25 billion in cash
On October 29, 2026, ING announced a shareholder distribution combining share buybacks and cash payment, approved by the European Central Bank (ECB), with the stated objective of maintaining its CET1 ratio in line with its target of approximately 13%.
A €1.65 billion buyback and €0.25 billion cash distribution in January 2027
The distribution consists of a share buyback program with a maximum total amount of €1.65 billion and a cash payment of €0.25 billion, which will be paid on January 14, 2027. The program begins on October 29, 2026 and is expected to conclude no later than April 26, 2027.
The group's CET1 ratio stood at 13.3% at the end of the third quarter of 2026, against a regulatory requirement of 11.10%. In line with ING's dividend reserve approach, the implicit impact of 56 basis points of this distribution on CET1 is already incorporated in this published ratio.
On October 28, 2026, ING Groep indicated that the ECB was maintaining its 170 basis point capital requirement under Pillar 2 for 2027.
The buyback will be carried out in accordance with market abuse regulations, within the limit of the authorization to acquire a maximum of 20% of issued shares, granted by the general meeting of April 14, 2026. ING has entrusted its execution to a financial intermediary under a non-discretionary mandate and will publish a weekly progress update.
