LVMH Stock Loses 20% in Three Months and Approaches Six-Year Low
The world's leading luxury player is losing ground mid-morning in a declining Paris market. The movement extends a slide of several months, while the two major comparable companies in the sector are declining even more sharply.
A Decline of 1.5% That Remains Below the 20-Day Moving Average, in a CAC 40 Under Pressure
The LVMH share is trading at €382.65 during the session, down 1.53% from Wednesday's close (€388.60). It is trading below its 20-day moving average at €387.91 (gap of -1.36%) and the 200-day moving average at €477.57 is nearly 20% above the price. Today's decline adds to a 20% loss over three months, leaving the share near its six-year low touched in early October. The CAC 40 is down 1.42% at the same time and the SBF 120 down 1.38%, but LVMH only holds an intermediate position in the index ranking: the sharpest decline of the day is Hermès, down 7.59%.
The sector is moving in the same direction. Kering is down 2.87% during the session and Hermès 7.59%, following declines of 9.46% and 7.49% respectively over one month. The luxury environment remains mixed: jewelry-gold sales in China fell 9.6% year-on-year in September, while Swiss watch exports to China rose 15.8%. The parallel trajectories are a session observation, not an explanation of LVMH's movement.

BNP Paribas Exane lowered its price target on Wednesday from €470 to €465, while maintaining a neutral rating. The target remains more than 20% above the current price. This revision follows the publication on October 12 of third quarter sales: €18,504 million in revenue, up 1% organically, with fashion and leather goods declining 5%.
During this nine-month publication, the group cited among its strengths the 8% growth in watches and jewelry and Sephora's market share gains, and among its risks the slowdown in demand in China and a negative currency effect of 3%. The analyst consensus is detailed on the analyst opinions on LVMH page. On the technical side, the RSI at 38 remains in the lower zone without being oversold, and the support at €379.50 is less than 1% away from the price.
