Nanobiotix stock rebounds by 2.5%, one of the best gains in the SBF 120
After a week marked by significant turbulence, the Paris-based biotech company posts a notable rebound on Thursday, partially reversing a downward sequence that had cost it nearly 10% over seven days. The stock is regaining favor with the market in a context that is admittedly not particularly supportive for indices, as the ECB holds its monetary policy meeting today.
A technical rebound against a backdrop of persistent bearish configuration below moving averages
Nanobiotix gains 2.25% to €31.84 during the session, posting one of the best rebounds of the SBF 120 on Thursday, among the strongest gains in an index itself virtually stable (+0.16%). This surge comes after a decline of nearly 10% over the past week, which notably led the stock to break through its support at €31.14. This level corresponds precisely to the previous day's closing price, and today's rebound has moved away from it, but it remains fragile relative to the moving averages.
The price is indeed still trading 8.69% below the 20-day MA (€34.87) and 7.20% below the 50-day MA (€34.31), two thresholds that now constitute solid ceilings in the short term. Only the 200-day MA at €27.78 remains clearly below the price, with a positive gap of over 14%, underscoring the magnitude of the bullish movement accumulated over the past year (+304% over twelve months). The RSI at 41 remains in moderately bearish territory without signaling any clear oversold conditions, leaving the technical configuration in an indecisive zone: today's rebound does not yet erase the selling pressure of recent weeks.
A heavy macroeconomic context with the ECB rate decision expected today
The September 10 session is dominated by the ECB meeting, with the monetary policy decision expected today. Markets are virtually fully pricing in a 25 basis point increase in the deposit rate, from 2.25% to 2.50%, driven by a rebound in inflation in the eurozone to 3.3% in August, fueled by an energy price surge of over 14% year-on-year. This potential tightening weighs on risk appetite in Europe, with the DAX declining 1.69% during the session and the FTSE 100 losing more than 1%.
For Nanobiotix, a company without recurring commercial revenues and a cash consumer, a higher rate environment structurally hardens financing conditions for the biotech sector. The VIX also rises 5.22% to 16.54, a sign of a slight uptick in nervousness in American markets. In this overall picture, the stock's rebound must be put into perspective with still-negative monthly performance (-4.84% over one month): the resistance at €38.60 constitutes the next threshold to break to validate a short-term trend reversal.
