Payments: Five European Systems Create Joint Entity ENP to Interconnect
Five national payment systems have announced the creation of a joint entity called "European Network for Payments" (ENP), tasked with linking their respective solutions across Europe.
The initiative aims to make payment services interoperable that were previously confined to their domestic markets, beginning with cross-border transfers between individuals.
Five Founding Players, Equal Shareholders
On September 30, 2026, Bancomat, Bizum, EPI Company/Wero, SIBS-MB WAY and Vipps MobilePay announced the creation of a joint entity, "European Network for Payments" (ENP), intended to operate and develop interoperability between their European payment solutions.
The founding partners will be equal shareholders in the entity, which will oversee technical coordination as well as future expansion of functionalities and participating solutions.
The framework may accommodate other established European payment solutions over time, subject to the agreement of the partners and the technical and operational requirements of the network.
Progressive Deployment Starting with Peer-to-Peer Payments
The entity's role is to connect existing European payment solutions via a common technical and operational layer based on European standards, including instant account-to-account payments.
The solutions and ENP are now preparing the technical implementation of the target system. Progressive deployment is to begin with cross-border payments between individuals (peer-to-peer), with online payments (e-commerce) and point-of-sale payments to follow in subsequent phases.
Approximately 130 Million Users in 13 Countries
According to the press release, the combined solutions already serve approximately 130 million users in 13 European countries, representing more than 70% of the population of the European Union and Norway.
The participating solutions are to progressively offer cross-border payments (between individuals, in-store and online) across Europe, while maintaining their respective brands and user experiences.
