KBC: ECB maintains CET1 capital requirement at 10.94% for 2026
The Belgian banking group announced in a press release published on October 27, 2026, that its overall CET1 capital requirement stands at 10.94%, a level stable compared to the second quarter of 2026. This regulatory threshold stems directly from the decision notified by the European Central Bank (ECB).
KBC was informed by the ECB of its new minimum capital requirements, following the Supervisory Review and Evaluation Process (SREP) conducted for 2026. The supervisor formally notified the group of its decision to maintain the Pillar 2 Requirement (P2R) at 1.95% and the Pillar 2 Guidance (P2G) at 1.00% of risk-weighted assets.
These two parameters are specific to each institution and set by the ECB as part of the SREP. According to the group, it is this decision that leads to the overall CET1 requirement of 10.94%, calculated on a fully loaded basis and according to the Danish Compromise.

The CET1 requirement breaks down into a Pillar 1 requirement of 4.50%, a P2R of 1.10% (taking into account the distribution provided for in Article 104a of the CRD V Directive), a capital conservation buffer of 2.50% and an O-SII buffer (other systemically important institutions) of 1.50%. It also incorporates all decisions announced by local competent authorities on future developments of countercyclical buffers, for 1.34%.
At the end of the second quarter of 2026, the group's CET1 ratio, measured according to Basel 4 on a fully loaded basis and excluding the floor, reached 14.4%. KBC places it "well above" the CET1 requirement applicable to it.
