STMicroelectronics share plunges to 30-session low at €40.50
The semiconductor manufacturer resumes its decline mid-morning, in a Paris market showing significant losses. It ranks among the weakest performers in the CAC 40, following a brief pause at the start of the week.
A downside threshold breached and a very heavy quarter
The share falls 3.61% to €40.50 and drops below its 30-day low of €41.01. This level, which served as support, is becoming resistance. It had already been broken on October 20, then again on October 16, without the price managing to hold at that level. The RSI at 35 follows the move and is not yet in oversold territory.
The decline reaches 29.26% over three months, while the share remains up 52.43% over one year. The share is also below its three moving averages: the 20-day MA is 10.75% above the price, the 50-day MA at 9.31% and the 200-day MA at 6.40%. Its decline is comparable to that of other European sector peers: STMicroelectronics is down more than 3% like ASML (-3.05%), while ASM International is down 4.68%. On Wall Street, Nvidia (+2.54%), AMD (+3.36%) and Micron (+1.96%) closed higher on Wednesday.
CAC 40 under pressure, third-quarter results on October 29
The CAC 40 declines 1.35% in session, and the SBF 120 by 1.31%. The share ranks second-to-last in the index, just ahead of Hermès (-7.52%). The interest rate context is weighing on the session: the 10-year OAT yield briefly crossed 5% on October 21, a first since 2002, before returning to 4.99% at close, with a spread of 1.58 points over the Bund.
The VIX rises 6.87%, to 18.5. On the company side, a share buyback program represents €186 million over twelve months, or 0.5% of market capitalization, according to the latest filing read on October 19. The next milestone is the publication of third-quarter 2026 results on October 29.
