Transgene Expands License Agreement with ProBioGen to Strengthen Vaccine Production Capacity
Transgene has expanded the scope of its existing collaboration with ProBioGen. The Strasbourg-based group has concluded an additional license agreement covering the AGE1.CR.pIX suspension cell line, designed to enhance its production capabilities.
An Additional License Agreement on Production Technology
Transgene (Euronext Paris: TNG), a biotechnology company specializing in immunotherapies based on viruses for cancer treatment, and ProBioGen, a contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) in biological products, vaccines and viral vectors, announced on September 8, 2026 that they had expanded the scope of their collaboration.
The additional license agreement covers the AGE1.CR.pIX suspension cell line. It aims to strengthen Transgene's production capacities through this specialized manufacturing technology.
A Platform Dedicated to Vaccine Production
ProBioGen's AGE1.CR.pIX suspension cell line platform is designed for vaccine production. According to the two companies, it enables high-yield manufacturing processes and aims for reliable production and increased productivity.
The AGE1.CR.pIX cell line is a stable proliferating avian cell line derived from primary duck embryo cells. It was developed as an alternative to the use of chicken eggs for large-scale vaccine production and is available in suspension and adherent versions.
The Positions of the Two Partners
Alessandro Riva, Chief Executive Officer of Transgene, stated: "We are pleased to expand the scope of our activities with ProBioGen. This additional license reflects our confidence in the technology to prepare large-scale clinical needs for the future."
Volker Sandig, Scientific Director of ProBioGen, indicated that the continuous cell line is qualified as a GMP master cell bank, cultivated in a chemically defined medium and without components of animal origin, allowing each batch to start from the same fully characterized starting material.
