Atos Commissioned by ESA to Build Earth's Digital Twin
Atos has been commissioned by the European Space Agency to launch and monitor calls for competition aimed at developing the DestinE ecosystem, a digital twin platform of Earth. Twelve providers have been selected to deliver advanced applications and services, several of which are already operational.
Launching the DestinE Ecosystem
Atos has been commissioned by the European Space Agency (ESA) to launch calls for competition aimed at developing the DestinE ecosystem. This initiative, led by the European Commission and implemented by ESA, the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), and the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT), aims to create a highly accurate digital twin of Earth. This tool is intended to assist public decision-makers, researchers, and innovators in simulating, monitoring, and understanding natural phenomena and human activity.
Selection of Service Providers
Following the first call for competition, twelve innovative service providers were selected to provide Advanced Applications and Services (AAS) on the DestinE platform. Some of these services are now fully operational. Deployed solutions include CALIFE (local and municipal quality of life), Harvic (potato crop monitoring), Hi-Rest LST (thermal analyses at 30-meter resolution), COMEO (Earth observation data compression), and DLMS (locust swarm detection and forecasting using artificial intelligence). Other innovative services such as CityNexus Pro, CONOPS, CC-PLAN, AQWALYTICS, Eki'Learning, MoMo, and InSAR services will soon be operational.
Atos Consortium's Role in 2024
As part of this project, the Atos consortium, comprising Atos, Mews Partners, and ACRI-ST, has been entrusted in 2024 with carrying out four essential activities for the success of DestinE: attractiveness and portfolio management to stimulate engagement and expand the ecosystem's reach, demonstrators offering inspiring use cases and structuring services, lifecycle support to accelerate ecosystem growth by simplifying service integration, and collaborative services and forums to develop a dynamic environment that fosters creativity and innovation.
