Abivax stock breaks through support level as short selling surges
The Parisian biotech continues its downward summer trend, losing ground in a Paris market itself slightly in the red. The decline widens the gap from moving averages, as the stock has lost nearly 10% over the month and more than 15% over three months.
A monthly decline of nearly 10% that pushes the stock below its three moving averages
The Abivax stock falls 1.69% to €95.90 in trading, in a CAC 40 declining 0.49% and an SBF 120 down 0.46%. The stock is thus positioned at the lower end of its reference index ranking, without however being among the steepest declines. Pressure has accumulated throughout the summer: the value has shed nearly 10% over one month and more than 15% over three months, erasing a large portion of gains accumulated at the start of the year, even though twelve-month performance remains largely positive at nearly 40%.
On the technical indicators side, the situation reflects this progressive deterioration. The price is below the 20-day moving average at €104.58 (variance of 8.30%), below the 50-day moving average at €109.01 (variance of 12.03%) and below the 200-day moving average at €103.20 (variance of 7.07%): the three moving averages are above the price, confirming a medium-term dynamic oriented downward. The RSI at 41 remains in neutral-low territory, with no clear oversold signal for now, while the MACD remains in negative territory with a histogram that is accelerating slightly downward.
Short positions rising as support at €97.40 has just been broken
Today's decline brings Abivax below the €97.40 support level, a level that the stock was already testing late last week without managing to stabilize there. The breach of this level mechanically opens more downside space, with the next significant upside resistance located only at €117.50, over 22% above the current price. In this context, net short positions deserve to be flagged. Five funds have accumulated 5.77% of capital sold short according to filed disclosures, up 0.92 percentage points over thirty days (compared to 4.85% a month ago, the last declaration dated August 28, 2026).
This level, above 5%, indicates that institutional investors are betting on a continuation of the decline or hedging an existing exposure. The recent acceleration of this cumulative total warrants monitoring: it occurs as the stock has dropped back below its three moving averages and broken its support, during a period when the positive regulatory momentum around obefazimod has not been sufficient to stem selling pressure. The €103.20 level (200-day moving average) now constitutes the first technical resistance to monitor in case of a rebound.
