Airbus and Hisdesat Sign PAZ-2 Satellite Marketing Agreement
Airbus Defence and Space and Hisdesat have signed a marketing agreement for the imagery and applications of the future PAZ-2 radar satellites, extending and expanding their partnership established in 2018 in the radar Earth observation sector. The agreement was formalized on January 28, 2026, at the European Space Conference in Brussels.
Details of the Marketing Agreement
This is a marketing agreement between Airbus Defence and Space and Hisdesat concerning the imagery and applications of the future PAZ-2 radar satellites. This agreement extends the existing collaboration for the marketing of radar images from the PAZ satellite in constellation with the German satellites TerraSAR-X / TanDEM-X, a partnership first established in 2018. The PAZ-2 program, led by the Spanish Ministry of Defence and Hisdesat, aims to replace the current PAZ satellite, which has been in service since 2018.
Contractual Details and Satellite Specifications
The release does not provide the contractual amount, specific duration, or particular conditions of this agreement. In July 2025, Hisdesat awarded Airbus Defence and Space a separate contract for the manufacturing of the two new PAZ-2 satellites. The first PAZ-2 satellite is scheduled to enter service in mid-2031. The satellites will offer an improved resolution up to 10 centimeters, a coverage of 6.7 million km² per day per satellite, a maximum scanning angle of 500 km, and near real-time services with a latency of five minutes.
