Airbus and Indra Selected for Study on Spain's Future Intelligence Aircraft
The Spanish Ministry of Defense has chosen Airbus Defence and Space and Indra Group to conduct a conceptual study on the future electromagnetic intelligence aircraft for the Spanish Air and Space Force, according to a statement from both companies.
Study Details and Objectives
The 18-month study will focus on analyzing and defining the most suitable platform and electromagnetic intelligence equipment, the statement indicates. The proposed solution involves three aircraft designed to detect, track, classify, and identify targets of interest for the Spanish armed forces. Airbus Defence and Space will develop an aircraft proposal tailored to the needs of the Spanish client, the company specifies. In collaboration with Indra, the aircraft manufacturer will study the integration of electronic intelligence and communications intelligence systems, a preliminary step before defining the development and implementation program.
Post-Study Modifications and Implementation
Following the study, Airbus is expected to perform the necessary modifications on the selected aircraft to implement and industrialize the electromagnetic intelligence system proposed by Indra, according to the statement. The aerospace group highlights its extensive experience in converting commercial aircraft into military versions, such as the A330 Multi Role Tanker Transport, with the conversion center located at its Getafe facilities. The company also notes its profound knowledge in integrating sensors and mission systems in various aircraft configurations.
