Introduction of the A350-900 to SWISS Fleet
Swiss International Air Lines has announced the acquisition of its first Airbus A350-900, the first of a ten-aircraft order. This new aircraft is part of SWISS's fleet modernization program aimed at replacing older aircraft with newer, more efficient models. Set to be the flagship of the airline, the A350-900 will be used for long-haul flights from Zurich to international destinations, including Boston. The integration of this new generation of aircraft is expected to strengthen the company's global network.
Features of the A350-900
The A350-900 is the first long-haul aircraft in the SWISS fleet to include the new SWISS Senses cabin, focused on comfort and personalization of the passenger experience. The aircraft is configured in four classes, featuring three four-seat suites in first class, 45 business class seats, 38 premium economy class seats, and 156 economy class seats. The A350-900 is designed with the latest technology in aerodynamics and engines, resulting in a 25% reduction in fuel consumption, operating costs, and CO2 emissions compared to previous generation competing aircraft.
Sustainability Goals of the A350
The A350 is designed to operate with up to 50% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), with a goal of 100% usage by 2030 according to Airbus. As of September 30, 2025, Airbus had recorded more than 1400 orders for the A350 from 63 customers worldwide. This widespread adoption illustrates the growing commitment of the aviation industry towards more sustainable and economically viable solutions.
