Alstom Secures €1.6 Billion Contract with PKP Intercity
Alstom has finalized a €1.6 billion deal with PKP Intercity for the delivery of 42 electric trainsets and 30 years of maintenance, according to the company's statement.
Details of the Agreement
According to Alstom's announcement, the contract with PKP Intercity, the national Polish rail operator, amounts to 6.9 billion zlotys, approximately €1.6 billion. It includes the delivery of 42 Coradia Max double-deck Electric Multiple Units (EMUs), along with an option to purchase an additional 30 trains. The agreement also encompasses 30 years of maintenance for these trainsets, covering preventive, corrective, and overhaul maintenance. The trains, which can reach speeds of up to 200 km/h, will be manufactured in Poland at the Chorzów and Nadarzyn facilities.
Production and Assembly Sites
The Alstom facilities in Chorzów and Nadarzyn, Poland, will handle the production and assembly of the Coradia Max trains. The Chorzów site, known for its expertise in rail manufacturing and aluminum welding, will play a crucial role in tailoring technical solutions to the Polish market's needs. The Nadarzyn site, specializing in bogies, serves European regional and intercity fleets and is involved in the maintenance of high-speed bogies.
Alstom's Strengthened Position in Poland
With this contract, Alstom reinforces its position in Poland, highlighting the country's significance in its global innovation strategy. The company, which has been present in Poland since 1997, employs over 4,700 people and has invested approximately €140 million in its local infrastructure over the past decade. The partnership with PKP Intercity demonstrates confidence in Alstom's ability to provide advanced and sustainable transport solutions while contributing to the enhancement of the Polish railway network.
