Alstom share falls below its 20-day and 50-day moving averages, declining 2.5%
The French railway manufacturer is pulling back sharply in trading, amid broad pressure on the Paris market. The decline comes less than a week after the announcement of a major contract in Canada, and places the security back in a degraded technical configuration across multiple timeframes.
A decline that erases the weekly gain and pushes the share below its short-term moving averages
Alstom fell 2.51% during the session, to 15.91 €, compared to a previous close of 16.32 €. The decline is all the more notable as the past week had been nearly flat (+0.51% over seven days), and the share now stumbles below its 20-day moving average (16.18 €, a gap of -1.67%) and its 50-day moving average (16.06 €, a gap of -0.93%). Today's movement thus crosses both short-term moving averages, plunging the share back into a degraded technical configuration.
Resistance at 16.93 € is receding, and support at 15.68 € becomes the immediate horizon, with a gap of approximately 1.4% relative to the current price. The RSI at 52 remains in neutral territory, without a marked signal of selling exhaustion, which does not rule out a continued slide towards this support level. Over one month, the share has lost 4.5%, and over one year, losses exceed 21%.
Short sellers still present amid a Paris market decline
The backdrop for the session is clearly unfavorable: the CAC 40 fell 1.88% and the SBF 120 declined 1.81% during trading. In this context, the share ranks 99th out of 120 members of the SBF 120, placing it among the most lagging values in the index. The downward pressure is furthermore occurring in a framework where net short positions remain significant: according to filed disclosures, five funds cumulate 4.56% of capital sold short, a decline of 0.67 points over thirty days (compared to 5.23% one month earlier).
This level remains elevated and reflects persistent skepticism from a portion of institutional investors towards the value, even though recent trends indicate an initial reduction in these positions. The long-term downward dynamic (200-day moving average at 20.85 €, or 23.69% above the current price) underscores the magnitude of the path still to be covered. The consensus of analysts on the value can be tracked as the share approaches its support level at 15.68 €.
