Alstom stock rebounds 2.5% and joins SBF 120 gains
The Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine railway manufacturer shows a marked increase during the session, in a well-oriented Paris market. However, the momentum remains contrasted over longer time horizons, with one-year performance remaining heavily negative.
A rebound that brings Alstom above its two first moving averages
The Alstom stock is trading at €16.57 during the session, up 2.38% compared to the previous close. The security is thus among the strongest gainers of the SBF 120, in a context of general progression of European indices: the CAC 40 is gaining 0.46% and the DAX 0.61% during the session. The technical configuration is improving slightly. Alstom is trading above its MA20 at €16.24 (spread of 2%) and its MA50 at €15.98 (spread of 3.66%), two thresholds that the security has progressively reclaimed.
The RSI at 51 remains neutral, with no signal of excess in either direction. Resistance at €16.93 constitutes the immediate obstacle: the security is approaching it but has not yet broken through. On the other hand, the MA200 at €21.14 remains well above the current price, representing a negative spread of 21.64% that illustrates the magnitude of the downward movement over one year.
Short positions still elevated despite a decline of 1.18 points in one month
On the fundamental front, Alstom's recent news remains dense. In early August, the group had secured an order worth €270 million for 25 additional Xtrapolis 2.0 trains for the State of Victoria in Australia, bringing to 50 the total number of trains in production there. At the end of July, the group had also finalized the financing of the NofiT project in Israel, representing approximately €750 million for its share. These elements are in a monitored context: the company is contesting a notification of grievances regarding its financial information, a procedure following an investigation opened since 2021-2022.
On the short positions side, five funds cumulatively hold 4.72% of the capital sold short according to registered disclosures, down 1.18 points compared to the level recorded thirty days ago. This level remains elevated and reflects significant institutional presence positioned downward, although the trend over one month is in the direction of a partial reduction of this pressure. The analysts' views constitute a benchmark to follow in this context, while the security still shows a decline of nearly 23% over one year.
