Amoéba: Dutch Green Light for Large-Scale Trials of the Biofungicide Axpera
Amoéba and its partner Koppert have obtained two large-scale experimental authorizations in the Netherlands for the biofungicide AXPERA, lasting two years. These exemptions granted by the Dutch crop protection authority allow, notably, the consumption of crops produced during these trials.
Two Experimental Permits for AXPERA Technology
Amoéba has received a large-scale experimental permit that extends the one obtained until spring 2025. The College voor de Toelating van Gewasbeschermingsmiddelen en Biociden (CTGB), the competent Dutch authority, authorizes the use of the biofungicide on crops already covered in 2025 (tomato, cucumber, strawberry, rose, gerbera) as well as on new crops (potato, sugar beet, onion, lettuce, spinach, apple, pear, leek), in greenhouses or in open fields on large areas. Koppert, Amoéba's strategic partner and a global leader in biological solutions, also obtained a large-scale field trial permit with the support of Glastuinbouw Nederland, the main network of entrepreneurs in the Dutch sector. This trial exemption concerns protected crops (cucumber, tomato, bell pepper, eggplant, strawberry) and targets specifically the fight against powdery mildew.
The Netherlands as a Strategic Market for Deployment
Amoéba identifies the Netherlands as a key market due to its status as a European leader in greenhouse horticulture with over 10,000 hectares of protected crops (tomatoes, cucumbers, strawberries, cut flowers). These crops represent a high economic value and are exploited all year round, allowing regular production cycles for local markets and export. The biofungicide AXPERA targets specifically powdery mildew and downy mildew. A notable feature of these exceptional derogations: unlike usual practices that require the destruction of crops from trials with unapproved products, the CTGB allows the consumption of the fruits and vegetables produced, given the low-risk profile of the product.
