Amoéba Secures French Market Authorization for Axpera
Amoéba announced on Tuesday that it has obtained market authorization (MA) in France for its biofungicide Axpera, granted by ANSES. This first permanent authorization paves the way for other European member states to finalize their own authorization procedures in the coming weeks and months.
Authorization Covering Vineyards and Vegetable Crops
Axpera is authorized as a fungicidal product that works by inhibiting the germination of fungal spores. The product covers multiple uses in vineyards and vegetable crops, particularly against downy mildew, powdery mildew, gray mold, and scab. It can be used preventatively, alone or in combination with other approved fungicides.
Favorable Usage Conditions and Exemption from Maximum Residue Limits
Axpera enjoys particularly favorable usage conditions: a re-entry interval of 6 hours in open fields and 8 hours under cover, a pre-harvest interval of 1 day, and reduced safety distances (5 meters from aquatic surfaces, 3 meters from people). The active substance of the product is on the list of substances exempt from maximum residue limits, eliminating the constraints of residue analysis on treated crops. The product is authorized for use in both conventional and organic agriculture and must be included on the French list of biocontrol products.
An Authorization Accelerating Expansion in Europe and Beyond
The authorization in France, which has taken on the role of rapporteur member state for the zone, accelerates authorizations in other targeted European countries. Amoéba markets the product in partnership with Koppert, under the brand names Tiagan for vineyards and Yazu for vegetable crops. This first permanent authorization, valid for 15 years and renewable, facilitates future geographic expansions and the broadening of uses, while the product has already been approved in the United States in 2025.
