Atos Creates Scientific Committee in France for Sovereign and Open AI
The IT group has unveiled a new body designed to guide its approach to open and sovereign artificial intelligence in France. This establishment brings together personalities from the academic world, industry and technology sectors, as well as Atos France executives.
A Steering Body Around Open and Sovereign AI
Atos announced on September 22, 2026 the creation of its scientific committee in France, an institution presented as intended to support the development of sovereign and open AI. The committee's mission is to explore and initiate concepts and solutions combining artificial intelligence, open source and sovereignty. According to the group, this body will guide its long-term vision in France, nurture its innovation approach, particularly the projects of its Inno'Labs, and help structure a European AI ecosystem. The committee brings together Alexandre Bouard (Renault Group, Software République), Stéphane Canu (INSA Rouen Normandie), Philippe Freyssinet (BRGM) and Jean-Baptiste Kempf (VideoLan, VLC), alongside representatives of Atos France including Franck Chartier, Chief Executive Officer, Sylvain Barthélemy, Chief Technology and Operations Officer, and Laurent Clergue, Chief Innovation Officer.
Open Source, Sovereignty and Societal Issues on the Agenda
The committee will support Atos in implementing an open source model within the development of its AI solutions. This will be reflected in particular through the creation of an open AI database grouping internal contributions, the pooling of developments, the scaling up of an AI agents marketplace across the group and the valorization of expertise in sovereignty and public cloud calls for tenders. The committee will also work on societal issues such as AI applied to healthcare, fundamental mathematics, ethics and environmental and social impact. This creation is part of the group's AI strategy, illustrated by the launch of Atos Sovereign Agentic Studios and the Atos MogwAI platform, with France hosting two studios, one in the South-West region and the other in the Paris region.
