Crédit Agricole Assurances Partners with AFD for Agricultural Insurance in Africa
The French Development Agency (AFD), the Grameen Crédit Agricole Foundation, Crédit Agricole Assurances, ZEP-RE, and ACRE Africa announced on Monday a key partnership aimed at enhancing access to financial services and parametric insurance for small African farmers. This initiative combines French expertise in insurance, risk modeling, and digital solutions.
A Partnership to Secure Agricultural Financing in Africa
The partnership, signed during the Business Forum at the Africa Forward summit, combines parametric insurance, digital tools, and credit risk analysis. It aims to bolster agricultural resilience against climate shocks and improve access to credit for smallholders by engaging local financial institutions and agricultural value chains.
Role of Partners and French Support
Crédit Agricole Assurances is contributing a project director on a skills sponsorship basis and will mobilize experts for specific missions. ZEP-RE and its subsidiary ACRE Africa, key players in the regional insurance and reinsurance market, are leading the large-scale deployment of the solutions. The French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs supports this initiative. The activated ecosystem includes companies and recognized players in agricultural finance, climate insurance, risk modeling, satellite data, and digital solutions.
Geographical Areas and Operational Scope
ZEP-RE operates in over 45 African countries from its headquarters in Nairobi and eight offices across Sub-Saharan Africa. ACRE Africa has six offices and operates in 17 countries. This geographical coverage enables large-scale deployment tailored to African realities.
