Edenred Shares Soar 15% Amid Acquisition Rumors
Edenred's stock ignites mid-morning, catapulting to the top of the SBF 120 amidst media reports of investment funds' interest in the payment solutions specialist. The company has confirmed approaches but has not yet validated the existence of a deal at this stage.
Edenred Targeted by Investment Fund Approaches, BC Partners Mentioned in Discussions
Edenred confirmed to AFP this Thursday that it had been approached by investment funds, following a report by La Lettre. The company declined to comment further and did not confirm ongoing interest or the existence of an acquisition operation. At this point, these are merely approaches, not a formal offer. According to La Lettre, the British fund BC Partners is leading the discussions, though they have not confirmed and declined to comment. The stock market reaction is unequivocal: the stock soared by 14.85% to €23.75, leading the SBF 120, well ahead of Pluxee (+6.41%). This movement comes as short sellers had been heavily positioned on the stock: as per records, nine funds had a combined 8.88% of the capital sold short as of June 11, a high level that has slightly relaxed over thirty days (-0.91 point). A significant portion of today's surge could reflect forced buy-ins of these positions, although it is not possible to precisely measure the exact component.
The Stock Shatters Its €23.36 Resistance and Rises Above All Its Moving Averages
Today's leap shatters the €23.36 resistance, already breached at the end of May, and pushes the price well above its three moving averages: 8.05% above the MM20 (€21.98), 12.24% above the MM50 (€21.16), and 19.11% above the MM200 (€19.94). The RSI at 43 remains in the neutral zone, indicating that the indicator has not yet fully absorbed the intraday shock. Over three months, the performance is up +29.18%, while the one-year decline narrows to -5.6%. The next technical milestone is now around the resistance threshold identified at €27.37, as the situation remains contingent on the confirmation, or not, of a deal.
