EssilorLuxottica Share Rebounds Against the Grain of a Declining CAC 40
After several weeks of marked decline, EssilorLuxottica posts a discreet yet notable rebound during Monday's September 14 session, bucking a downward-trending CAC 40. The share remains, however, heavily weighed down over longer horizons, with moving averages still pressuring the technical setup.
A Rebound at Close in a Market Under Central Bank Pressure
The EssilorLuxottica share closes at €148.25, up 1.26% from the last close on Friday, September 11. The gain runs counter to the CAC 40, which falls 0.85% at the day's close. Ranking 12th in the index among 40 members, the share does not figure among the session's best performers, but it ranks among the rare values in positive territory. This move of resilience occurs in a tense market context: the Fed meets on Wednesday, September 16, and recently published U.S. inflation data (3.4% year-on-year in August) have strengthened the hypothesis of a rate hike.
The Bank of Japan is expected to move higher on Thursday, and the ECB has already raised rates by 25 basis points on September 10. The VIX advances 9.28% today, to 17.31, reflecting heightened nervousness in the markets. In this climate of widespread monetary tightening, EssilorLuxottica, whose H1 2026 results (published on July 28) had highlighted adjusted operating income growth of 15% at constant exchange rates and free cash flow of €1.07 billion, regains some color without erasing the decline of nearly 10% accumulated over one month.
Three Moving Averages Above Price, RSI in Oversold Territory at 28
On the indicators front, the setup remains deteriorated. After hitting a four-year low during Thursday's session on September 10, the share remains below its three moving averages: the 20-day MA at €157.04, the 50-day MA at €163.79, and the 200-day MA at €207.00, representing gaps of 5.60%, 9.49%, and 28.38% respectively above the current price. The RSI at 28 signals a clear oversold configuration, which reflects accumulated selling exhaustion over the recent period without guaranteeing a reversal. The support at €145.85 remains the reference to monitor in the short term, 1.6% below the closing price.
Among the risks mentioned during the publication of H1 2026 results, the negative impact of currencies had already weighed on the published margin (18.6% versus 18.9% at constant rates). In this context of simultaneous oil shock and monetary tightening, the analysts' views on the value remain a reference to follow. The resistance at €172.30, approximately 16% above the current price, represents the next significant threshold.
