L'Oréal Acquires Majority Stake in Indian Innovist
On Thursday, L'Oréal signed an agreement to acquire a majority stake in Innovist, an Indian personal care brand house founded in 2019. This move is part of the French group's expansion strategy in one of the world's most dynamic beauty markets.
A Strategic Acquisition in India
L'Oréal announces the acquisition of a majority stake in Innovist, founded by Rohit Chawla, Sifat Khurana, and Vimal Bhola. The company operates a portfolio of specialized care brands for the Indian market, including Bare Anatomy and Chemist at Play. These brands target Indian consumers through science-based formulations, ingredient transparency, and direct-to-consumer digital channels. Skincare and haircare products are distributed through Innovist's direct sales platforms, major e-commerce sites, quick commerce channels, and offline distribution partnerships. The company relies on internal research and development as well as manufacturing capabilities. The founding team will remain in place as minority shareholders and will continue to operate and develop the business alongside L'Oréal India.
Accounting Consolidation and Timeline
Innovist's brands will be integrated into L'Oréal's Consumer Products division portfolio. The group will begin to consolidate sales from the transaction closing date. The agreement also provides L'Oréal with the right to fully buy out the minority shareholders. The completion of the transaction is expected in the coming months, subject to regulatory approvals and customary conditions.
