Michelin Shares Rise 1.77% at Opening Following Acquisition of Flexitallic
Michelin shares are up 1.95% this Wednesday morning at 32.90 euros, continuing their rebound since the beginning of January with a 6.52% gain over seven days. The manufacturer benefits from the announcement, the day before, of the acquisition of Flexitallic, a specialist in high-performance seals, aimed at consolidating its position in industrial components.
Michelin Acquires Flexitallic to Strengthen Its High-Performance Seals Business
The French group formalized on February 3rd the acquisition of Flexitallic, a global leader in sealing systems for the energy and chemical sectors. This transaction, expected to close in the first half of 2026, is part of the Michelin in Motion 2030 strategic plan. It aims to expand the business portfolio beyond traditional tires, by strengthening the group's positions in high-value-added technical solutions.
This diversification meets the Clermont-based manufacturer's desire to reduce its exposure to automotive cycles and to capture new growth drivers in the industry. The integration of Flexitallic should allow Michelin to benefit from commercial and technological synergies, especially in demanding environments such as offshore oil or petrochemicals. Investors welcome this initiative that diversifies the group's revenue profile.
Michelin Stock Also Benefits from Renewed Analyst Support
The stock also benefits from renewed support from financial analysts. At the end of January, Citi initiated a 'buy' coverage with a target price set at 36 euros, representing a potential upside of nearly 10% compared to the current price. A few days earlier, Deutsche Bank had also raised its target from 31 to 35 euros, while maintaining its buy recommendation. These revisions reflect a renewed confidence in the group's ability to execute its strategic roadmap.
Technically, the crossing of the resistance threshold at 32.85 euros confirms the upward momentum initiated at the beginning of 2026. The stock is now trading above its 50 and 200-day moving averages, positioned at 29.10 and 30.66 euros respectively, signaling a trend reversal. However, with a relative strength index at 71, the stock enters an overbought zone, which could prompt some investors to exercise caution in the short term. The next key event awaited by the market will be the publication of the 2025 annual results, scheduled for February 11.
