Proximus Entrusts Nokia with the Modernization of Its Billing System and Voice Core
Belgian operator Proximus has selected Nokia to modernize its online billing infrastructure and voice network core, according to a press release issued this Monday. The deployment will leverage cloud-native solutions aimed at enhancing automation and facilitating the introduction of new 5G services.
Comprehensive Client Base and Product Migration
Proximus will migrate its entire customer base, both fixed and mobile, as well as over 1,000 products to the Nokia Converged Charging solution, the statement indicates. This deployment involves a complete replacement of the billing system from a currently installed competitor. The chosen solution is based on a cloud-native architecture designed to offer more modularity and automation. All systems will be deployed on Proximus's own cloud infrastructure, using the Red Hat OpenShift platform.
Implementation of Advanced Voice and Data Management Solutions
In addition to billing, Proximus will implement Nokia's Voice Core, Subscriber Data Management, and Policy solutions, according to the group. These tools are intended to enhance network automation and enable flexible scaling of capabilities. According to the operator, these modernizations will support its transition towards more autonomous networks and facilitate the launch of 5G monetization services. Nokia is presented by Proximus as a long-standing provider, bringing expertise in secure migration and network integration.
Cloud-Native Solutions to Enhance Network Management
According to Nokia, the deployed cloud-native solutions will provide the modularity and intelligence necessary to make networks self-managed, self-optimized, and self-repairing. The equipment manufacturer indicates that this modernization will enable Proximus to launch innovative services and explore new use cases in the areas of the Internet of Things, content, gaming, and advertising. Proximus reported an underlying revenue of 6,430 million euros at the end of 2024 and employs 13,131 people, according to the information provided.
