Saint-Gobain Stock Falls 25% Over One Year and Sinks Into Oversold Territory
The building materials manufacturer's stock continues its downward sequence on Monday, accumulating a monthly decline of nearly 17% while the CAC 40 itself gives up less than one percentage point in the session. The technical configuration remains degraded, with an RSI fallen into marked oversold territory.
A Decline That Extends a Downward Trend Established for Several Weeks
Saint-Gobain stock falls 2.01% to €70.08 in the session, versus a previous close (Friday, September 11) at €71.52. Over the past week, the decline reaches 7.52%, while over a rolling one-month period it exceeds 16.7%. These figures illustrate a slide that has been stretching since mid-August: the moving averages had already been breached in early September, and the support had been broken mid-week last week.
The stock ranks among the most marked declines of the CAC 40 at the start of this week, in a session that is nonetheless quite contrasted for the Paris index. The macroeconomic context weighs in the background: construction conditions in France show a confidence climate of -18.2 according to Eurostat data for August, with housing permits declining 8% over twelve months, which does not facilitate the recovery of values directly exposed to the building cycle.
Moving Averages Well Above the Price and RSI in Oversold at 27
In terms of indicators, Saint-Gobain is trading significantly below its three moving averages: the MA20 at €77.96, the MA50 at €78.35 and the MA200 at €79.71 are all more than 10% above the current price (respectively -10.11%, -10.56% and -12.08% gap). This gap reflects sustained selling pressure, with no sign of the moving averages converging. The RSI at 27 signals a clear oversold configuration, a level similar to that observed when passing below support in recent sessions. This oversold condition may indicate an exhaustion of the bearish movement, but it can also persist if fundamental factors remain unfavorable.
The MACD remains negatively oriented, with its histogram displaying -1.09. The stock is now trading below its identified support threshold at €71.06, while resistance at €85.54 is very distant. Over the past twelve months, the loss exceeds 25%, making it one of the most significant annual declines among major CAC 40 stocks. The first half publications from early August, which showed stable revenue of €23.6 billion in H1 but an EBITDA margin declining to 15.4%, remain the last available fundamental benchmark for assessing the group's trajectory.
