The STM32C5 series targets entry-level applications that require performance, reliability, and energy efficiency: smart thermostats, electronic locks, industrial sensors, robotic actuators, wearable devices, and computer peripherals. According to the company's management, this generation is part of the ambition to offer a portfolio that is 'the broadest, most scalable, and most secure' range of microcontrollers, from entry-level devices to advanced chips. The new components benefit from an optimized design in proprietary 40 nm technology, enabling enhanced performance while maintaining reduced energy consumption and competitive costs.

STMicroelectronics offers an enhanced STM32Cube development environment that combines modernized tools, optimized drivers, and an expanded set of production-ready software examples. The ecosystem also introduces STM32CubeMX2 with quick preview function and STM32 HAL2, a new compact hardware abstraction layer. The STM32C5 microcontrollers incorporate onboard security protections aiming for SESIP3 and PSA level 3 certifications, with memory protection, tamper detection, cryptographic engines, and secure boot. The STM32C59x and STM32C5A3 variants offer additional security features including hardware key management and cryptographic accelerators. The products are currently entering production, available in packages from 3 mm x 3 mm to 20 mm x 20 mm, with STM32 Nucleo evaluation boards accompanied by development software.
