Team Wendy Ceradyne and Theon International Develop Integrated Military Helmet for the US Army
Team Wendy Ceradyne and Theon International have announced a strategic partnership to develop a multifunctional helmet system for the US Army. Funded by the US Army Combat Capabilities Development Command, the project aims to integrate ballistic protection and advanced electro-optical technologies.
Collaboration on Integrated Multi-Threat Headborne System
According to the press release, Team Wendy Ceradyne, an American manufacturer of advanced combat helmets, has partnered with Theon International, a specialist in electro-optical systems, to design a prototype of the Integrated Multi-Threat Headborne System (IMHS). The program is conducted under an initiative funded by the US Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Soldier Center, following a cost-sharing model between the US government and industrial partners. Erik Cobham, president of Team Wendy Ceradyne, mentioned in the release, stated that this system transforms head protection into an integrated helmet combining ballistic protection and enhanced situational awareness. The project also involves other industrial players, Invisio for tactical communications and hearing protection, and Revision for ballistic and laser protective eyewear.
Integration of Advanced Technologies
The developed system combines Team Wendy Ceradyne's ballistic protection technologies with Theon's advanced electronic systems, according to the company. The helmet's modular architecture is designed to deliver mission-adapted technologies, including communication integration, and is scalable according to future operational needs. Dr. Michalis Kolotos, director of American operations at Theon, quoted in the release, said the partnership would allow the integration of Theon's opto-electronic solutions, with capabilities including advanced day and night head-up displays and augmented reality, connected to the soldier's power and combat management system. These technologies aim to enhance situational awareness and decision-making in the field, the company specifies.
Evaluation of the IMHS Prototype
The IMHS system prototype will be evaluated by the DEVCOM Soldier Center in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2026, according to the press release. This evaluation, designated as Soldier Touchpoint, will assess the system's performance and gather user feedback for future design phases, the company indicates. Theon International, listed on Euronext Amsterdam since February 2024, develops and manufactures night vision and thermal imaging systems for defense and security applications, with a presence in 71 countries. Team Wendy Ceradyne is a subsidiary of Team Wendy, which is part of Avon Technologies, a global leader in critical environment protection equipment.
